SECOND SIGMA PLANT WITH RAP TOWER STARTED-UP IN ITALY

September 2022

The 160 tons/hour hot mix asphalt capacity COMPACT 2000 model SIGMA Plant is equipped with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement feeding system.

Being ordered by the Italian distributor of SIGMA in early 2022, the 160 tons/hour capacity asphalt plant was shipped in May inside 21 each 40 ft containers. After completion of the concrete foundations, the installation was completed in early September 2022 and the plant was started-up successfully. RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) feeding system was tested as well and finally the plant was approved in terms of performance and hot mix product quality.

Installed in the Sicily Island of Italy, the plant uses LPG gas as fuel, where heating of bitumen and plant components is accomplished by electrical heaters. The cold aggregate and RAP bins as well as conveyor frames are all hot dip galvanized as requested by the customer. Two types of hot-mix product can be stored inside the two compartments of the 72 tons capacity finished product silo or discharged directly into the truck by the central direct discharge chute.

The fully automatic computer-controlled asphalt plant’s recycle feeding system comprises of two feeding hoppers, belt conveyors and bucket elevator which transfer the recycled material to the RAP Tower, where the pre-determined amount of material is weighed and fed into each batch of the mixer.  The dryer exit temperature is increased to a higher level which is based on the humidity of virgin aggregates and RAP material as well as the ratio of RAP feed into the mix. The contact of hot virgin aggregates with cold RAP inside the mixer, ends up with considerable amount of water vapour which is collected by a specially designed aspiration system and transferred to the bag filter.
